Michelle
Mone is a motivational and inspirational speaker. She is straight talking
and gives a genuine down to earth personal account of how she built up
her company. She speaks passionately about her struggle to succeed against
all odds, shares funny anecdotes and provides practical advice to budding
entrepreneurs.
Michelle Mone DUniv is one of the world's leading woman entrepreneurs
and is the founder and co-owner of MJM International Ltd.
Due to an illness in the family, Michelle left school aged 15 with no
qualifications. She spent a number of years successfully modelling in
Glasgow and then went on to work for Labatts Brewers in her home town.
When the Labatts brand moved to Whitbread, Michelle chose to take redundancy.
In November 1996, Michelle started MJM International Ltd with her husband
Michael. The business has gone from strength to strength and Michelle
has won a number of prestigious awards including:
- In April 2000, at a ceremony in the Epcot Centre, Florida, Michelle
won the coveted 'World Young Business Achiever Award' beating off top
entrepreneurs from 14 countries.
- In October 2000, Michelle was the winner of 'Business Woman of the
Year' at the Corporate Elite Awards.
Her achievements have been further recognised by the following:
- In 2001, Prince Charles asked Michelle to join the Board of Directors
for The Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust.
- In November 2002, Michelle was awarded an Honorary Degree, Doctor
of the University, by Paisley University.
- In May 2003 Management Today voted Michelle one of the top 30 woman
entrepreneurs in the UK. Michelle was listed alongside the likes of
Martha Lane Fox and Stella McCartney.
In 2005, Michelle presented BBC's Mind Your Own Business, advising business
owners on what they are doing right and where they are going wrong, and
offering straightforward suggestions on how to improve their businesses.
Michelle Mone has built a hugely successful career on an incredibly simple
concept: giving today's women what they want. What began with the Ultimo
bra now extends to a number of very successful lingerie brands including
Ultimo, Young Attitude, Michelle for George and Per Amore.
Due to the phenomenal growth of Ultimo lingerie and swimwear, MJM International
have signed a deal with Debenhams to open their 10 stand alone Ultimo
stores within Debenhams, the first of which opened in Glasgow in October
2007.
In addition to it's jointly owned brands, MJM International currently
supply Debenhams, Selfridges, House of Fraser, Next, Grattan, Littlewoods,
Figleaves and ASOS along with a number of independent lingerie stores.
Michelle has now launched a new business called TrimSecrets. She had
tried every diet on the market for 10 years and had felt miserable, tired
and disappointed. She was then recommended to go and see one of the most
renowned naturopaths in the world,
Professor Jan de Vries and asked for his help. He told her that he was
working on TrimSecrets for the past 5 years but was still missing a vital
ingredient. A few months later, he found the missing ingredient and she
began to trial TrimSecrets. Michelle lost over 5 stone in a year and her
energy levels are at their highest.
She is married and has three children.
