During the attempt he twice suffered a high altitude pulmonary oedema resulting in a return to Aconcagua 3 times to make the summit, claim the record and fulfil many a mountaineers' dream. Having been so close to death, returning to the same mountain 3 times became a personal challenge with real fear and demoralisation to overcome. On five of the seven mountains he led clients to the summit, which was rewarding and a challenge in itself.
